Owl on the Tree of Life

This is probably the only place you will see an owl peacefully sitting with a bat, scorpion and what appears to be a hippo.

There are a few endangered owls in the wild, but none so talked about than the Northern Spotted Owl.   The Northern Spotted ranges in the west northwest, mainly in Oregon, Washington and northern California.   Requiring significant acreage of older forest, their range is large.   Spotted owls nest in hollowed-out cavities found in old trees and feed on many different species of rodents especially the nocturnal flying squirrel.

Preserving the Spotted Owl's habitat has become controversial in recent years, spawning many habitat and environmental studies, and even conflicts between environmentalists and loggers.   Here is a good information from The World Owl Trust and some Owl Links to look at.
