Zebra, Striped Equus

There's one in every crowd. You may have noticed while looking at these safari photos that all except the most water loving animals are turning their backs on the rain. This little fellow in front is apparently marching to a different drummer.

The Zebra is native to africa, and a member of the genus Equus is related to the horse in the family Equidae. It more closely resembles another relative, the wild ass, with its short erect mane and tufted tail.

They can be trained to work in harness. However, they also resemble the wild ass in that they are not truly domesticatible (not to worry, the house cat isn't either).
